Is Plastic Surgery OK at Any Income?

As plastic surgery gains more acceptance and popularity, its cost still serves as a hurdle for many Americans. However, a new survey by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery shows a growing number of people at every income level now approve of plastic surgery.

Last month’s report shows that almost half (48%) of respondents making under $25K each year approve of cosmetic procedures. The approval grows with income level: 52% of those with a $25K-$50K income, 55% of those with a $50K-$75K income, and 62% of those with an income over $75K.

Almost a third of Americans are considering plastic surgery for themselves, including 23% of those making under $25K.

“Twenty years ago people thought only movie stars and rich women had plastic surgery; now people in every income bracket know someone who has had a plastic surgery procedure or would consider plastic surgery for themselves,” said ASAPS president Renato Saltz, MD. “Even in this difficult economic time, people are willing to invest in the things that improve their quality of life.”
